After having a lovely pre-Thanksgiving dinner with our friends, I am starting my winter holiday decorating a few weeks earlier than I usually do. And I will say, with the super cold weather we are having, it doesn’t feel early at all!
To get started, one of the things I have done is make a 4 foot long rustic wood diy holiday sign to place above my living room mantel.
I wasn’t sure what to do with this area, but I wanted something that made a statement. The wall space above this mantel is huge, I could fit 3 large wreaths (which I tried), and the mantel itself is gigantic.
I really loved the idea of a large rustic wooden holiday sign here, but it needed to be much bigger than I could find. So I made one.
Here is what I did:
I went to Home Depot and bought three 4×7 boards for about $7.00.
I painted them with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in White.
I stenciled on the letters I needed and used gold craft paint to fill them in
(I already had all these things In my stash)
Next, I grabbed my husband early in the morning and had him nail the planks together for me.
Finally, I lightly sanded around the corners and rubbed a tiny bit of red paint on the edges and because this sign is so heavy, I also nailed a heavy duty wall hook on the back.
And there you have it!
A large rustic Holiday Sign for $7.00.
