DIY Rustic Wood Signs

Happy Friday!

Today, I am sharing two Rustic Wood Signs that I made. This is one of those low cost DIY ideas that I like to do, rather than spending the money to buy from a store.

I kept seeing cute little signs at the shop by my house and although they were super tempting to buy, that place is really over priced. I just kept thinking that I could totally make those myself for a lot less. So I did. I created one for Spring that says “Bloom” and one for Summer that says “Sun”. This was actually a zero cost project, because I keep a bin of paints and stencils and whatnots that I can use.

All I did was repurpose some old pieces of wood from the garage (from an old ladder we cut shorter) and my husband kindly cut them into the sizes that I wanted. Since I was specifically making these to sit rather than hang, the 3 1/2 x 1 1/2  size was perfect. If I didn’t have this wood lying around, I could’ve  just bought a bit of inexpensive 2×4.

I painted them both with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in White, leaving some of the original wood showing. When they paint was dry,  I stenciled letters with craft paint in Spring Green and I was done. Mind you, my stenciling job is not the neatest (a paint pen would’ve been neater) but I was OK with that. It’s a rustic look after all.

I think they’re kinda cute. Whenever I go in that bathroom, they make me smile. It’s the little things.

What do y’all think?

  1. These signs are adorable! I have been hemming and hawing about making some too. I feel the same way you do about purchasing them! Why do that when you can make them, right?! Pallet wood is also a great option for making them too. Thank you for the inspiration!
