Kitchen Farmhouse Light Update

Farmhouse Style Kitchen Light Fixture

Kitchen Farmhouse Light Update

Hi y’all!

Today, I’m super excited to show you how I easily changed the style of the pendant light fixtures in our kitchen to an industrial farmhouse style for under $50.

This is what they looked like before.Β Just your run of the mill pendant lights.

They were perfectly fine lights, but didn’t have any personality.

I had been looking at replacement pendant lights that were more of the style that I wanted, but they ran at about $100-$180 EACH.

Needless to say, that was out of the question.

So, here is my thrifty solution to get the look that I wanted.

I went to Lowes and found these in expensive (comparatively) pendant light shades for $20 each.

They were the size and style that I wanted, but they only came in brown. My pendants are hammered gray.

I bought the shades anyway and to remedy the situation, y’all know what I did…I spray painted them to match. I used Rust-Oleum Hammered spray paint in gray (dog not included).

I used vintage style LED lights at from Home Depot (rather than ordering them online)

They are about $12 each.

    1. Hi Linda! That’s great that you have the same color cabinets in your kitchen! I know that white is all the rage right now, but I would never paint these because I want to keep the resale value of the house. I find that if I add a lot of white to the room, it keeps it from being to dark.
I hope you find some inspiration in my other kitchen posts. Thank you so much for stopping by!

  2. They look amazing Karen! I didn’t realized that you could buy just the metal “shade” portion of a light fixture–and it fit your existing fixture–awesome! Your kitchen is beautiful and the new pendants add just the right touch :)

    1. Thanks Dianne! I knew that you could get the glass shade replacements but being able to buy these metal kind is new to me too!
Thanks for stopping by! See you at the party!

  3. LOVE these pendants! We just moved a month ago and I have been on the hunt for some pendant lights – these are getting added to the list!! Thank you so much for sharing this on Pin Worthy Wednesday, will be pinning this to the link up board now! :)

    1. Thanks so much Beth! I appreciate you stopping by! Sadly, I don’t know. The cabinets were here when we bought the house and they don’t have any brand name on them anywhere. Sorry I couldn’t help you with that :(

  4. Hi Karen! Love, love, love the lights! I just put a globe light with the 60 Edison bulb in it. I am curious – do you feel it gives you enough light over your island? I would love to try something similar – but this would be our main light. Thank you – looks gorgeous :)

    1. You know, I got the LED dim-able style lights which have an amber tint and I think they are way too dark for a main source of light. I should have gotten the clear version of the lights. I think 2 of the clear 60 watt is plenty for a main light source.
They have them online at Pottery Barn rather than drive all the way out to our Home Depot :)
BTW, I hope you will stop back by and join our Something to Talk About link party that starts on Monday mornings!

    1. Thanks Katie! What’s funny is after I did these, I noticed that the light over my kitchen table is the same color. I always thought it was black! Go figure!

  5. Karen,
I’d say “there are NO rules, here”, dear friend!!!
I love that you found an economical way to have the farmhouse light fixture of your dreams!!!
The comment about the dog. . .made me chuckle out loud!!!

  6. Hi Karen, I love your new industrial/farmhouse pendants (and your transformation with a can of spraypaint)! Lowes definitely has great, inexpensive options for pendant lights that are very budget-friendly. I’ve been eyeing a couple of them for a while for a couple of my projects.

  7. Oh, you are the most clever one! I love what you did to your pendent lights! Don’t you just love the rustoleum paint! Your kitchen is just gorgeous! Thank you so much for popping in to see me today.
    Be a sweetie,

  8. Oh, Karen, I love them! Just that little bit of gray really complements your counter tops and ties your whole kitchen together! Your kitchen is lovely with the warm wood cabinets and that gorgeous planked ceiling. It reminds me so much of my grandma’s kitchen years ago, so you know you’ve got that authentic farmhouse style going on! :-)

P.S. Too bad that sweet little dog isn’t included with the paint…I’d definitely run out and buy some! LOL

    1. Mimi, thank you so much! When I was looking to buy a house up here, I walked in and saw that ceiling and knew this was the house! I love it πŸ˜ƒ
And that little dog is my spoiled ROTTEN Talula. I love that darn dog so much it’s silly!
