Today I am sharing how to DIY a simple Farmhouse style sign for just a few dollars.
This weekend, I decided that I needed a little something for the space over the kitchen sink, but didn’t want to buy something. Sometimes I get sick of buying things (crazy, I know) so I made my own sign instead.
Here is what you need:
Piece of wood
Stain & brush
Paint or Marker
First, I grabbed a piece of wood from the garage that was left over from another project we recently completed. Luckily, it was the perfect size that I needed so there was no cutting involved.
After lightly sanding the edges, I applied just one coat of Minwax stain in Dark Walnut.
After letting the stain dry, I taped stencils onto the board to add my text.
I had planned on using white paint to fill in the letters but I couldn’t get the jar open. Darn paint had dried it shut.
So, I went to plan B and used a White Chalk Pen instead.
Once I was done filling in all the lettering and making small touch ups ( It’s farmhouse style so it doesn’t have to be perfect. You can even distress the sign a bit if you prefer) I just had to wait a few minutees for the chalk to dry.
I added a small picture hanger to the back and I was done.
(I didn’t want to put a hole in the wall, so I used a Command Strip wall hanger)
The only thing I bought was the stain at about $5.00
And there you have it. A cute, easy to make, summer sign for the price of a coffee.
