Pre-Spring Living Room Update on a Budget

Have we talked about how obsessed I am with spring?

At the moment of writing this, we are 44 days away from the first official day of spring. I know, because I have a countdown on my iPad. Like I said, obsessed. Luckily, (besides the blizzard we had recently) this winter has been pretty mild. And I hear the groundhog says it’s going to be an early spring. What wonderful news!

Until spring really does get here, it’s easy to get stuck in a “not yet spring, but I’m totally over winter” funk. To avoid that, here’s a few simple ways that I added a breath of life into my living room without spending a ton of money. It’s my Pre-Spring Living Room Update on a Budget.

How I Gave My Living Room a Pre-Spring Update on a Budget

To get started, I brought my printed pillow covers back out.

I love that they add a bit of sunny gold and whimsy. Almost all of these were on sale at Pottery Barn last season. The only one that I paid full price for was the horizontal gray and white ticking pillow (because it was worth it, am I right?!) Bringing these back out perked up the couch without buying anything new, and I’m pretty sure that I’ll keep them out until next fall.

Next, I used glass accessories with natural elements to help lighten the feeling of the room. I love the look of cloches, so I created a display of them using what I could find in the house. The nest of eggs is actually in a cheese dome that I bought years ago. I never really did use it for cheese. And the 2 eggs are actually on a candle plate covered by a random dome that I had in a drawer. A stylish look for no cost. The pretty glass candle holder is from Pier1. I’ve also used it for flowers, so it pulls double duty.

Then, for more touches of the outdoors, I used dried hydrangea on the fireplace mantel and coffee table. They’re from my yard last year, so adding them was cost free. I mean, have y’all seen the prices on good silk flowers? Filling these urns with silks would have been pretty darn expensive. Using my own dried flowers really saved a bundle. If you like this idea, you can see how I dry hydrangea here.

And finally, I replaced my heavy canvas window panels with new, lighter, printed drapes. I got these for a STEAL at home goods and I must say,  I’m pretty smitten with them!

The white background really adds that extra brightness to the room and like I said last week, I’m really crazy about coral this year. I don’t know why I’m crushing on it so much, but when I saw these, I had to have them. It was raining when I took the pictures of the windows, so the color is a bit dull, but you get the idea.
