Milk Paint Makeover

image

Hi Everyone!

Today, I am sharing a color makeover that I gave an old piece of furniture with Miss Mustard Milk Seed’s Milk Paint in Apron Strings.

I have had this piece for years. Through 2 apartments and all 3 of the houses that we have owned. It has been in hallways and kitchens.

It’s original color was dark brown that had been painted white and then about 8 years ago I painted it green.

I liked the green for awhile, but 8 years is a long time to keep something the same. That color was past it’s expiration date and I was ready for a change y’all!

When deciding on a new color, I took into account that PA is the gloomiest place that I have ever lived in my life. Ever. And I have lived in a lot of places.

Seriously, sunshine is at a minimum here. So I wanted something bright and cheerful.

I love the colors of MMS paint (even if I dislike the actual process of mixing it) and I had always liked the color Apron Strings.

To me, this color is coral, but other people (my husband) have called it pink. Either way, I think it’s a fun, happy color.

You may have seen a small peak of it on my post DIY Wall Art Frame, but here is a more detailed look:

One layer of Apron Strings and a coat of Clear wax.

I did some light distressing to let all the previous colors show through,

And I also replaced the original wood knobs with 2 new styles.

I already had three that I bought for something else and never used, so I just needed one more small knob and the two larger knobs.

They were only about $4 each.

What do you think of the new color and knobs?

This hallway is in the works for a paint color update soon so stay tuned :)

Have a great day !

  1. Karen! The new color is fantastic; and the knobs go with it so well. I have yet to try Milk Paint and from what I’ve seen in blogland, I really just need to head to the thrift store and pick up something to try my hand at it. Thanks for sharing. Feel free to share this at my Make it Pretty party which is currently live. Here is the link so you can check it out. http://www.thededicatedhouse.com/2015/07/make-it-pretty-monday-week-144.html Hope to see you at the bash! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

    1. Thanks Pat! The new wall color is a few shades lighter so the hall is not so much like a tunnel! Even on the sunniest of days, pics of it were dark.

    1. Thanks Ann Marie! You should try it! It’s easy to work with (once you get the mixing down) and a great way to updaye things with non toxic paint.

  6. Looks great as always. Those pieces that we got from SM hold up so well and look great when painted! So funny what you said about PA.

I’ve been meaning to tell you…….we a house in the country! I’ve been so busy getting this place ready to sell……but you know all about that!

  7. Beautiful indeed….especially with poster of birds. Do you know name of poster or where you got it? Love it!

  8. Sorry you find Pa. the gloomiest state. I have lived in five states and found the weather the gloomiest in Cleveland. The people were wonderful there as were the people everywhere I lived.

    Smile and the sun shines.

    1. Hi Nancy! I’m so glad that you had better luck with the PA weather than I am having! I have never lived in Ohio, but I have heard that it snows alot. I try to make the best of it, but I do love me some summy weather!
      Thanks for stopping by :)

  9. Absolutely love this!! And it is very cheerful, just what is needed when it is dreary outside. We have lots of sun down here in FL but, oh my, it is so hot right now!
